County Cavan
The Province of Ulster is home to the County of Cavan. Here, the River Shannon begins at the slopes of Cuilgah on the south side. Killygeen forest is fantastic with fishing, wildlife habitats, horseback riding and hiking. Natural wonders are plentiful in this county perfect for getting away from it all for the day.
County Monaghan
This county was immortalized in poetry by Patrick Kavanagh. This native Irish poet found County Monaghan worth putting down on paper forever and you will see why when you visit. History and outdoor fun can be easily found and enjoyed. Carrickmacross and Clones are famous for the exquisite lace work, a craft that has been practiced in the area since the early nineteenth century. The usual golfing and equestrian sports are favorite pastimes in County Monaghan.
County Kildare
Horses are the main focus in this county made most famous for its thoroughbreds. Along with the practice of horse breeding, naturally comes horse racing. And what better setting for such a past time than the lovely grasslands of County Kildare? Spend time in one of the local pubs catching up on the racing news or just sit back and soak up the sun in one of the region’s quaint hotels.
County Laois
Ancient rings, forts and burial grounds bring ancient history to modern day visitors. County Laois is perfectly suited for a walking tour. Lovely scenery and plenty to do and explore make this smaller county worth a day trip.
County Longford
Home to waterways, fishing and water sports, Longford is also where St Patrick reportedly made St. Mel a bishop in the town of Ardagh. Local summer festivals are fun for the whole family.
County Offaly North and County Westmeath
More of Ireland’s natural wonders are found in the bogs and rolling hills of these two counties. Excellent fishing and Heritage Centers add to their charm.
County Offaly South
